Biography
On 27 November 2024, stumbling stones were laid for Theodor, Wilhelmine and Else Fleissig. Klaus Maier-Rubner, who researched the biography of Wilhelmine’s son, Max Eugen, for the Initiative Stolpersteine Göppingen, was sponsor for the laying. Wilhelmine, her daughter Else and her brother-in-law Theodor were deported in 1942 from Nuremberg to the Izbica ghetto and murdered there.
Wilhelmine Eleonore Wertheimber was born on 31 March 1883 in Munich as the daughter of Emil and Wilhelmina (née Munder) Wertheimber. On 14 June 1905, she married the factory owner Julius Fleissig, who had been born on 17 November 1870 in Fürth. He died on 23 May 1934 in Nuremberg. His parents were Samuel and Cäcilie (née Brebacher) Fleissig.
Wilhelmine and Julius had two children: Max Eugen (born on 13 May 1906) and Else Helene (born on 9 July 1908). From 1915, the family lived at Kressenstrasse 4. On 7 August 1934, Wilhelmine, now a widow, moved to Lange Zeile 40 to a residence which belonged to the Wertheimber family. On 17 December 1938, she moved in with her son at Bärenschanzstraße 37.
Else Helene trained as a nanny. She lived with her mother.
Trader Theodor Max Fleissig (born on 27 November 1876 in Fürth) was Julius’ brother. He was single and had no children. He lived with Wilhelmine and Else.
Wilhelmine, Else and Theodor were deported on 24 March 1942 from Nuremberg to the Izbica ghetto and murdered. Only Theodor’s death date is known: He was murdered on 10 April 1942.
