Biography

On 24 October 2025, four stumbling stones were laid for Leo and Alice Gerstle and their sons Walter and Heinz. Gabriella Gerstle, the granddaughter of Leo and Alice and daughter of Walter, was sponsor. The Gerstle family fled to Palestine.

Businessman Leo Gerstle was born on 30 December 1896 in Memmingen, as the son of Heinrich and Sarah Gerstle, née Wolf.

On 20 June 1923, he married Alice Rosa Silber in her place of birth Kitzingen. She was born there on 25 December 1900 as the daughter of Nathan and Gertrude Silber, née Lehmann.

The couple moved to Nuremberg in 1923. Here, they had two sons: Walter Nathan, born on 23 October 1925, and Heinz Erich, born on 6 January 1930.

Leo fled in November 1936 to Palestine; Alice and the children followed him in February 1937.
